Hiroshima - 広島市 - the
capital of the largest city in Japan, located in the western region (Chūgoku) on the largest Japanese island, Honshu.
Hiroshima is best known as the first city in history to be destroyed by a
weapon of mass destruction by the US Army Air Force.
The atomic bomb was
released at 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 6, 1945, near the end of World War II.
